Don’t weather the storm on your own! 

In my six months as CEO, I hope you have seen the REC raise its game, re-focus its efforts and challenge its own ability to provide you with the best possible support.   We know times are tough for many of you; we have seen a surge in recent weeks in the use of the REC’s legal helpline and our mentoring packages as members look for expert advice from their trade association.  With this in mind, we have decided that if you pay your 2009 membership fee this December, we will keep it at the same level as 2008. New members are joining each week as recruitment businesses recognise that in this environment, we need to stick together and push back on the Government and procurement bodies when they propose change which will affect your business. 

The REC remains committed to being your businesses one-stop-shop.
We have made great strides in 2008. We have delivered professional training to thousands of recruiters, lobbied for the VAT staff hire concession to remain, promoted better, more open procurement processes, organised some of the most prestigious industry awards including National Temporary Workers Week, worked with your clients through our Future of Employment Working Group and supported many recruitment businesses through our Business Support Unit.

Our plans for 2009 are the most comprehensive ever and here are a few highlights:

• Introduce dedicated account managers for each member, so you have a named REC person to look after you
• Launch more sales focussed training to help our members win and retain business
• Extend our research portfolio to focus more on the permanent sectors
• Promoting the value of using REC members directly to employers
• Ensure our standards are complied with by introducing a more robust application process and inspecting 30 members per month
• Host the industry’s major conference
• Redevelop Individual Membership to provide the industry with a world-class institute
