The Recruitment & Employment Confederation - The Voice of the Recruitment Industry

Jobseekers

Are you looking for a new permanent or temporary job?

Are you considering using a recruitment agency to help you in your job search?

If so make sure you use an REC member agency as they sign up to a code of practice requiring them to deal with you ethically and responsibly. You can find an REC member near you, or specialising in your sector, here.

Before you start your search, you should know that your agency has certain obligations and responsibilities to you. Make sure you understand your legal rights and the role of the agency.

To get the most out of your partnership with a recruitment agency, it is also important that you think about how you can best work with them. After all, you are hoping to sell a product (your services) and they are the ones who can help you get your product to the consumer – in this case, employers!

So, to get the most out of your recruitment agency, make sure you:

  • Keep in regular contact
  • Provide full and complete information – including all your contact details and references
  • Be honest – not only should your CV be totally accurate and up to date, but you should be clear about what you are looking for. For instance, if you know you don’t want a particular type of job it is best to be up front about this, saving you both time.
  • Trust your consultant – listen to what advice they have about improving your CV, think carefully about their assessment of any potential employers. Remember they are professionals and they want to help you succeed.

The REC is proud to work in partnership with a multitude of partners to support jobseekers' services including Jobcentre Plus.
